Why do we crave unhealthy food? A healthy weight loss diet program often becomes a battleground between our desire to lose weight quickly and our desire to snack on unhealthy food choices. We may not to be what we eat, but research shows that we desire foods that we are used to eating, so you could say that we to crave what we eat. Once you’ve established a pattern of eating ice cream for pleasure or when you’re stressed, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that you’ll develop ice cream cravings under the right circumstances. I never craved coffee until I started drinking it. The same goes for double chocolate ice cream. The taste of coffee and chocolate must be learned through exposure to these foods and their flavors. If people living in more primitive cultures in the jungle can develop an appetite for nibbling on creepy crawlies unique to their habitat, surely we can develop our desire for a decent, healthy snack, healthy fast food, and healthy food recipe selection. when preparing food.

To quote a line from a movie, “Build it and they will come.” In this case, if we develop the habit of making healthy foods at meals and snacks, we will start to crave those foods instead of the ones we have given up.
There is a lot of pleasure involved in these nibbling experiences, and most of us don’t want to give them up. However, if we can substitute some simple healthy food and snack recipes, we can train our mental and physical taste buds to crave them, and a new connection of pleasure will form around the new healthy food choice or recipe.
Recent studies have proven this. The results showed that new cravings can be created to replace old ones, even though the new ones are based on bland and healthy foods and the original ones were the tried and true tastes of fat and sugar. The best news? It can take as little as one week to do this.

If you don’t want this kind of shake to hit your taste buds right out of the gate, you can make it a two-step in some cases. For example, when a seemingly uncontrollable craving for chocolate ice cream strikes, have a cup of coffee or a glass of Chocolate Ovaltine and milk instead. Ovaltine is not like the chocolate milk formulas offered to children. Instead, think of it as healthy fast food. It contains vitamins and minerals, and if you use one or two instead of the recommended four tablespoons, not too much sugar.
Step Two: Buy a good chocolate flavored whey protein mix (or flavor of your choice) from your local health food supplier and use that instead of the Ovaltine. These protein supplements aren’t what they used to be. I used to NOT blend them without a blender and they tasted pretty bad. Not so anymore. They mix quickly just by stirring or shaking and the flavors are quite good. Trust me.
Now you’ve turned drinking fat and sugar ice cream into a healthy fast food option: a protein supplement! Plus, it’s much more fulfilling and satisfying. You won’t be tempted to eat anything as quickly as if you had given up and had ice cream.
Is it not working? Well, I can personally vouch for that, and tests with regular everyday people like us have proven it. It actually worked when using very bland but healthy meal recipes and snack substitutes instead of the usual tasty treats, and after just a week. People actually craved mild tasting healthy snacks instead of their old unhealthy treats.
